How To Blow Dry Your Extensions

SHAMPOO YOUR EXTENSIONS ONCE A WEEK

Your scalp naturally produces oil to keep it hydrated, and while when this builds-up, it causes your hair to become greasy, without this natural oil, your scalp will become super dry and dehydrated. Many of us have become guilty of washing our hair the moment that it gets greasy. However, the more you wash your hair, the quicker it will get to this state because your scalp is continually trying to renourish itself before it is stripped away again. Washing your hair and extensions only once a week will ensure that you maintain the perfect balance between fresh hair but still with plenty of natural oily goodness.

When sleeping, a very good tip I learnt is to plait your hair before you go to bed, not only does this give your hair a fab beachy wave when you wake up, but it also keeps your hair from tangling. Do not back comp your Extensions. Be sure to shampoo any holding hair spray next day...

Drying

Always fully dry your bonds, you can leave the ends dry naturally if you want, but it is very important to keep the roots where the bonds are dry. Another tip is to put your hairdryer on the cold setting, as it is once again, you guessed it, better for the bonds.

If you are wearing a Pre bonded keratin method i.e. glue, you will need to begin blow drying your hair extensions straight away, as allowing your hair extensions to sit damp can cause the bonds to become sticky, which is not ideal.( With bonds/Tape in method of hair extensions please try not use very hot shower when in bath, as this can met your bonds) If you are wearing another method such as micro ring hair extensions, nano ring hair extensions, tape hair extensions or weft hair extensions, then you can allow your hair to air dry slightly before blow drying.

Making sure you have parted your hair in a position you are happy with, begin blow drying your hair extensions on a low heat setting, focusing on the roots first. If you prefer to section your hair when blow drying this is fine, you just need to be sure not to catch those bonds or weft track with the clips.

If you’re not a pro with the barrel brush, don’t worry neither are we, so you can stick to the good old fashioned rough drying technique, manipulating the hair with your fingers.

How To Shampoo Your Extensions

Shampoo
Choose a natural or extension friendly shampoo. Stay away from any shampoo with Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) as this often damages and corrodes the bonds.

Conditioner
Never condition the roots as you'll cause the bonds to unravel over time, instead, condition only the ends, our advice if you have time on your hands, its best to leave conditioner for about 30 minutes to 1 hour this is super great as it revitalixe your extensions making it soft and also apply mask once a week

Separating Your Hair Extensions

As your hair extensions begin to grow out, they can tangle or matted easily,  around the bonds because they will no longer be at the root. Usually, these would be repositioned during your maintenance appointment, the rings/beads (Nano rings/Micro rings and I-Tips) Will be move back up towards the scalp, Tapes will be re tape with a clean Tapes and move back up too, preventing them from knotting. However, as it will be quite some time before you can do this, you will need to ensure that you keep your extensions separated. To do this, gently run your fingers through the underneath of your extensions. If you do have a weave in or any tape extensions, make sure that you also pick up the rows and separate the hair that sits between the rows to prevent matting. In doing this, not only will it be easier to manage your outgrown extensions but it also means that the strands will be in a good enough condition to reuse when you can eventually book in for a maintenance appointment.

Brushing
Get an extension brush. This is vital, you will literally rip your head of hair out if you try and brush them continuously with a normal brush, so seriously get one. The tangle teezer is your best choice as they are very soft and friendly with beads /rings method of hair Extensions.

Roots
This is brushing continued you could say - because it is hella important to never brush your roots. Why? Because this is where your extensions are bonded to your head and you will damage them and potentially pull them out if you brush them. Instead finger your hands through the roots to keep them from tangling and then hold your hair in a fist just under your ear and then brush the ends. By holding your hair you are taking pressure off the bonds therefore keeping them tight.

Norishing Your Hair Extensions

Itching

When you get a new set of extensions, especially your first set ever, it is normal for them to feel a little itchy. Often its just your head getting used to them and sometimes it could be because you need to give them a wash. Obviously if itching persists, go to your hair technician but usually, it is normal!

Nourishing

Our last tip is to use this lockdown period to your advantage through nourishing your hair with conditioner and oil. As there will be less need to leave the house or wash your hair, you can really allow your extensions to feel the full benefit of nourishing products. This will help to not only keep your natural hair healthy but also give your extensions a gorgeous shine, making them super smooth ready for when you can revisit ukhairlocks. However, when using any products aside from shampoo, be sure only to use these on the middle and ends of your extensions, not the root. Much like we mentioned above, applying products too near to the bonds will cause them to begin sliding, eventually falling out.

And most importantly, ENJOY your "New Hair With Attitude, From ukhairlocks extensions You will feel confident and happy with your new appearance. Guarantee, with long flowing sets of extensions. You sure need these "enhancements"  to boost your confident and self esteem all the way! You sure will lOVE your Extensions!

tANGLE tEEZERS SOFT BRUSH

To go hand-in-hand with our above hair brushing tip, we thought it was also important to advise you on the best type of brush to use. Regardless of whether your extensions are dry or wet, a soft bristle brush will always be the best option. But we would personally recommend ordering a Tangle Teezer. Tangle Teezers are designed with soft flexible teeth, which allow you to thoroughly brush through the hair without pulling or tugging. Any brush with balls at the ends of the bristles can easily catch on rings, bonds, tape or weave as they begin to grow out, so be sure to avoid this kind of brush.
